SharePoint Designer workflows not open/edit after migration into SharePoint 2016

Dear Experts,

We have recently installed SharePoint 2016 in sand box and migrated two applications with content DB. After this when we are trying to access designer workflows which are created in SP 2013 & SP 2010 workflow template in SharePoint designer 2013 and we are seeing below error message. As per blogs we have cleaned up (C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SharePoint Designer\ProxyAssemblyCache) cache, but still seeing same error message. This is happening only when accessing SP 2016 migrated sites, we did not see any issues with SP 2013. Is there any limits with SP 2016 or we missed anything?

Looking forward your great advises on this.

Thank you!

How to check processed workflows count by each workflow server in 3 server workflow farm?

$

Hi there,

we are running SP 2013 farm with workflows farm configured in 3 servers .

The workflow services are running in all three servers and we can see that all three servers are processing workflows successfully.

we noticed that, two workflow servers are consuming high CPU and RAM usage and one server CPU & RAM usage is relatively low.

We thought to check the count for the processed workflows in each workflow server?

Can we achieve this using any workflows PS scripts or through any API?

SharePoint 2016 OOTB Approval workflow status showing In Progress even all workflow tasks completed and approved

Dear Experts,

Recently we have been seeing strange behavior in OOTB Approval workflows on our SharePoint 2016 production environment  (App servers -3, WFE's - 4, SAS server -1 and SQL 2014 server - 1).

Most of the approval workflows are completing successfully, but very few approval workflows (2 out of 120) status showing "In-Progress" (see below image) forever even all workflow tasks completed and out come is approved.

In order to find the root cause of this issue, we have verified all settings such as event logs, SP logs, timer jobs, workflow task list settings and workflow history list, all are looks goods, but not sure why this happening only for few workflows.

Can you please review this and provide your suggestions/advises?

Re installing workflow manager 1.0 in SharePoint 2013

Hi there,

we have already workflow manager 1.0 installed and processed workflows successfully.

We deleted the site where the workflows are subscribed and the associated workflow scopes status become unregistered.
We tried republishing the workflows but still unable to process the workflows.

So we are planning to reinstall the workflow manager.

Do we need to uninstall every component in workflow manager and reinstall them from the beginning or can we specifically uninstall few components and reinstall them ?

Please clarify,

The Workflow Manager Backend service cannot start. An attempt is done every 30" but it's always fails. The errors I see in the event viewer (every 30") are the following:

Note: I choosed "First response applies" in the assign task, also I've checked the assign task list sittings "Allow Multiple Selection = Yes"

Workflow revision number mismatch

Hi All,

since end of last week I have a really frustrating error on just one site collection when I try to publish or modify a SharePoint 2013 workflow (Workflow Manager). I have SharePoint 2013 Enterprise (onPremise) with several Site Collections using Workflow Manager workflows. But only on this one Site Collection the (2013) workflow stopped working and I cannot start, assign, edit or pulish any other SharePoint 2013 workflow. At "Add a Workflow" page there are only SharePoint 2010 Workflows listed. When I try to change the start option for an already asigned SharePoint 2013 workflow I get the error "Please select a workflow template". The 2010 Workflows are working and editable.

When I try to republish that workflow or a completely new one with only one single activity using SharePoint Designer then I get always the same error message:

"'/SharePoint/default/13072147-9e59-44c0-87d3-e36601fe6e46/03c029e3-6088-472b-8149-70a1787556b8' is not in an updatable state. Its current state is 'Unregistered'"

In the log file I can see that error and the additional information:

"Workflow revision number mismatch! Current workflow store revision is 428 and workflow host scope has revision 0"

There are several treads regarding that "unregistered" error. All have the same solution to re-register the workflow service. Until now I have already done this:

- Re-register the workflow service
- Fully reinstall the workflow Manager
- Checked the CU of Workflow Manager (CU 2) and SharePoint 2013 (CU June 2015)

None of them gave the solution for me. The Site Collection still seems to be disconnected from Workflow Manager. Do you know how can I solve this "unregistered" / "Revision number mismatch" error?

Thanks in advice for any hint.

Dears,

I have two problems with SharePoint Workflow. I have created a Leave request workflow.

I have created a site on SharePoint and linked the site with SharePoint Designer 2013.

After the user submitted the leave request. The manager notified that leave request submitted If the manager approved the user and Hr notified that the Manager has been approved the leave request. If the manager rejected the user notified that the manager has been rejected the request.

1- Now, my problem is... How can the Manager approve or reject the leave request direct from the outlook?

2- How get the manager directly from Active Directory?

Nothing happens when creating a 2013 workflow

I can create SP 2013 work flows from my SPD on 2 farms OK

But when creating a workflow in the DEV farm, The "Create List Workflow" dialog shows Platform type SharePoint 2013 Workflow

And when I click OK, there is a small dialog showing for a second, then goes away. but a workflow is not created.

There is no error showing on the Workflow Manager server.

I already unregistered and registered the proxy on the farm.

Where should I look for errors? what else should I look for?

Thank you in advance.

Sending email to SharePoint user without profile

$

Hopefully this is an easy answer.  I find random comments out there regarding SharePoint 2013 workflows and that users involved must have a profile in the UPSA profile database.  Is this true?  If so, why is it necessary and is there a way to send an email to a user that doesn't have a profile?

We have users who were recently migrated from domain A to domain B using Move-SPUser.  As a result they are no longer getting emails generated from SP 2013 workflows.  Their email address is present in the site user information list.  They have a basic profile in the profile database that only contains user name and email.

Should this be working?

Workflow fails to run Http 404 error

$

All our 2013 workflows failed to run after servers been patched with March CU 2018 and also Workflow Manager CU5. Strangely, this error still persists after they rolled back the whole farm (vms and databases) to an unpatched stage. Has anyone got any clue what this could be related to?

Whenever you start *any* Sharepoint 2013 workflow, it will just sit there with a Http 404 error and a retry sign. And then after awhile, it ended up in suspended status.

No errors in the event log, except many service bus related warnings. No application error either.

The workflow manager is using the farm account. Sharepoint 2010 workflows work though.

Workflow debugging prerequisites failed to complete Visual Studio 2012

Hello,

I am using SharePoint Workflows 2013 within a SharePoint 2013 hosted app. Since I updated ServiceBus, WF Manager and WF Dev Tools to latest CU (CU 3) I cannot debug my app with Workflow anymore. I am getting following error message:

"Workflow debugging prerequisites failed to complete..."

I reinstalled the WF Manager, ServiceBus and WF Dev Tools and updated it again to latest CU available. Same error message. But I am able to deploy app with workflow and workflow is running in target site.

From the output window in vs 2012 I see following (not sure if this is realted to my problem):

 "Starting Microsoft.VisualStudio.SharePoint.SharePointConfigurator.exe
Microsoft.VisualStudio.SharePoint.SharePointConfigurator.exe ended with error. Additional Information: Could not obtain required information from SharePoint."

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

How to setup the workflow which send an e-mail in Chain.

Hello There,

I created a Requisition Form list in SharePoint 2010 where my manager is filled out the form and put users name in Job reports to field and submit it once it submit it send an email to whoever’s assigned to user.

Also, this Requisition form is going to use by the entire organization so the workflow should know the flow. So like whoever filled out the form from any department the computer/workflow should know that user's manager then manager's manager e-mail to send an email for approval.

FYI- everyone in this organization at least have read permission to he share point site.

Now, I want to setup the Approval workflow but I am confusing on the workflow part i do have SharePoint designer 2010 but not sure how to setup this complicated workflow.

So for Basic scenario My manager name is Bob, then Bob’s manager name is Helen (Director) , then Helen’s manager name is Lisa (CIO).

So when my manager filled out the form and once he submit it goes to the manager’s manager (In this case go to Helen for approval) then it go to Helen’s manager (In this case go to Lisa for approval) and then HR for final Approval?

How can I achieve this can anyone please help me to setup the workflow for this?

Thank you for your responses.

I need your help here. I am having an issue with Workflow manager. I have installed and configured workflow manager in Farm (we have two WFE servers and I have installed Workflow service in one of the server and configured the workflow service in same server. I have installed Workflow client in other server.) When I try to access the Workflow from the server I have configured workflow manager, there is no issues. But when try to access the workflow from other server installed only workflow client, I am seeing error as “some workflows may not be shown. we were unable to reach the workflow service”

I have verified the logs and found following error,

Microsoft.Workflow.Client.WorkflowEndpointNotFoundException: Unable to connect to the remote service at http://XXXXXXXXXX:12291/SharePoint/default/2b24245e-2cde-481c-8bdd-6f9457fec277. I have configured the workflow service using HTTP and HTTPS. Do you have any idea on this.
