Workflow Manager Configuration" tool is not getting opened from SharePoint 2016 server.

Hi,

I am planning to uninstall the workflow manager from SharePoint 2016 as we could not update the certificate after the expiry. So in order to uninstall the workflow manager we need open the "Workflow Manager Configuration" utility from desktop but while I am clicking on this....the workflow manager configuration tool is not getting opened...I am following the below url :

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/34424.sharepoint-2016-uninstall-the-workflow-manager-1-0.aspx

As per this url while I am clicking on "Workflow Manager Configuration" the belowconfiguration wizard should get opened but it is not opening , upon clicking this nothing is happening....what could be the reason? We want to uninstall the workflow manager.

Thanks&Regards,

Use One Field to Update Another

$

I have 2 SharePoint Online lists.

List #1 - Students

  • Field #1 - StateCode
  • eld #2 - StateName

List #2 - States

  • Field #1 - Abbreviation
  • Field #2 - Description

Scenario:

  1. A user in the list named Students changes the value of StateCode (or enters a new value for StateCode). For example, user enters NC.
  2. The flow finds the row in the list named States where Abbreviation is NC. The flow gets the value of Description in that row (e.g., North Carolina).
  3. The flow goes to the row that the user was editing in the list named Students. The user sets the value of StateName in that row to North Carolina.
How would I accomplish this? I need to use O365 tools only (e.g., either Microsoft Flow and/or PowerApps). Thank you.

Hello everyone.

Is it possible to have Sign-Off status in document property? When someone send a document for approval. I then have to print it as per company policies. I wanted the printed document to display the names of people who have signed-off.

Thanks in advance for your valuable answer.

Error On Task Assignment: Only site owners can add/delete a task

Hi,

I'm getting a very strange error, the reason I'm calling it strange because I couldn't found a single post on this error over the web. Workflow is working fine until I use Assign a Task/ Start a Process activity. It throws the error "Only site owners can add\/delete a task", for full error message please see below:

Following is my farm topology.

Web Server: SharePoint 2013

App Server: SharePoint 2013

Workflow Server: Workflow Manager

What I have tried:

  1. Full control permission to service account
  2. Used task assignment activities within App step
  3. Gave separate permission on the workflow task list
  4. Created a new workflow task list

Date and Time: 6/9/2015 9:35:35 AM

So please suggest how can we resume those suspended workflow which gives above error.

Odd Flow Null Problem

$

This is a little bizarre I hope someone has seen & solved this before.

Flow logic:

1. Trigger on create/update

2. Get all items that have same Project ID which yields:

{
  "value": [
    {
      "@odata.etag": "\"6\"",
      "ItemInternalId": "163",
      "ID": 163,
      "Title": "?",
      "Project": {
        "@odata.type": "#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedReference",
        "Id": 16,
        "Value": "AFRL 711 HPW Sensors"
      },
      "Project#Id": 16,
      "m8sj": "CDO",
      "acuj": 7,
      "mmwk": 2,
      "Modified": DELETED,
      "Created":
DELETED,
      "Author":
DELETED,
      "Author#Claims": "i:0#.f|membership|wwheeler@cdotech.com",
      "Editor":
DELETED ,
     "{Link}":
DELETED,
      "{Name}": "?",
      "{FilenameWithExtension}": "?",
      "{Path}": "Lists/Positions/"
    }
  ]
}

- Initialize some variables to hold counts

- Apply to each

 -- Increment billable (Works)

 -- Increment vacancies (Works)

 -- Test to see if vacancies have posts using

if(and(greater(items('Apply_to_each')?['Vacant'],0),startsWith(coalesce(items('Apply_to_each')?['Job Posting'], ''),'N')),items('Apply_to_each')?['Vacant'],0)

InvalidTemplate. Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Increment_postings' inputs at line '1' and column '2562': 'The template language function 'greater' expects all of its parameters to be either integer or decimal numbers. Found invalid parameter types: 'Null'.'.

This where my noodle gets fried.   Using the very same field  to increment vacancies, it claims to be Null in the greater() function.

Peripheral question why are the field names different than the list definition:

      "m8sj": "CDO",   --> Company
      "acuj": 7,           --> Billable
      "mmwk": 2,       --> Vacant

All suggestions and sympathy welcome!

Bill

Cannot Terminate Suspended workflows

Can I powershell or Sharepoint mgmnt shell to Terminate a suspended workflow in sharepoint online?

changing the RunAs account without reinstalling Workflow Manger

For SharePoint 2013 installation, I need to change the RunAs account.

is it possible to change the RunAs account without reinstalling Workflow Manger/SB Manager without complete uninstall? Even if I remove all servers from the farm, seems like the RunAs account is always in Management db, so RunAs account is pre-populated with the old account.

Thank you

ServiceBus threw MessageNotFound exception - every second

$

Hi,

I'm having an issue with Workflow Manager used for SharePoint 2013. In the event log it generates below entry every second.

ServiceBus threw MessageNotFound exception while trying to receive a deferred message. Deferred message context details:

MessageId = 190556, ActionNamespace = Microsoft.Workflow.Dispatcher, ActionName = ReceiveNotification,

InstanceId = {85ff16b1-6cf9-4388-bde1-f47db491b562}, ResumptionKey = a53e9c63-42bb-4840-bc1c-0b907a79c8c1,

MessageTraceId = {9989a57e-9c01-4d4c-b3a8-df46428346f6}

And CPU usage is 100% because of WorkflowManager, ServiceBus Gateway and Service Bus message broker services. I've tried to check the workflow instance, and it was created on SharePoint ListItem which was deleted and no longer exist in system.

Is there any way I can remove this deferred message? I can't remove the workflow and workflow-Scope and many workflow instances are still running.

Thanks.

SharePoint Workflow 2013 Open and Edit Workflow Problem In SharePoint Designer

Hi,

I found a problem in my SharePoint Server after installation some OS updates on SharePoint Server 2013 (Windows 2012 R2). When I open an existing Workflow 2013, I get an error that SharePoint Designer cannot display the item press F5 to refresh. Once I press the F5 key it shows me an error dialog that Windows Workflow Foundation, Part of .Net Framework 3.0, must be installed to use this feature. And when I want to create new Workflow 2013 after opening create a workflow and selecting a title of workflow SharePoint Designer does not do any action.

I did a bunch of works to solve the problem but I couldn't, such as:

  1. Change Workflow Manager Server
  2. Install all Updates Workflow Manager
  3. Reconfigure Workflow Manager

I will really be grateful if you have any solution because I don't know what can I do more?

Workflow Manager 1.0 - Workflow instance exceeded the quota of 1000 activities

$

Hi All,

I'm getting this issue which terminates the workflow when I run one of our workflows under a particular scenario:

Details: System.Activities.Statements.WorkflowTerminatedException: The workflow instance exceeded the quota of 1000 activities executing at the same time.

The scenario causing the issue is intended to send tasks to over 50 users but it terminates at about 40.  It is submitting these composite tasks in a parallel ForEach loop.  The error doesn't seem to match the actual problem as there are not 1000 activities running but it looks like some threshold has been breached.

Before making any changes, the workflow was dying at around 20 composite tasks but it improved to around 30 when I put a delay in the loop between sending the tasks out.  Delaying the tasks further did not improve the 30 figure.  I then tried changing the config settings on the Workflow manager and upped the limits for most of the settings (one by one):

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj680843(v=azure.10).aspx

This brought the number tasks submitted to around 40.  Again, increasing these further did not change this number.

I have tried some other things out:

  • If I submit the composite tasks with WaitForTaskCompletion to false it will submit all the tasks.  This is not much good as I need to perform actions when each tasks is complete and then more actions when all tasks are complete - kind of the point of having a workflow!
  • I have tried decreasing the complexity of the workflow before the tasks are sent out but this seems to have no effect (by sending out same message to all recipients).

This is the only article I could find with the error:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/2938007/workflow-instance-exceeded-the-quota-of-1000-activities-executing-at

But none of these solutions are workable.

The environment is W2012R2, SP2013 using VS workflows.

Hope someone can help or give me any other ideas to try!

We all of a sudden had our SharePoint 2013 workflows stop running. We can't figure out if there was an update. The only thing that we did on the day this started happening is we enabled the Windows Desktop Experience feature. We have tried turning it back off and they still do not work. SharePoint 2010 workflows to run manually. We have re-installed the workflow manager as well as all associated services. Any help would be appreciated.

Sharepoint Online - Is it Possible to create a Workflow for Permissions

$

Hello,

I am trying to create a workflow for a SharePoint Online list that will remove all permissions on a specific item (upon creation) and then assign permissions to a single user based on a lookup to find the user assigned in the person column for the List item.

I know this is possible in SharePoint 2010, however, I want to know if Sharepoint Online supports this functionality.

Thank you.

Sharepoint design 2013 - workflow stuck in the middle of the processing actions

Hello folks

I created a list for internal approval and a workflow to perform this approval.
I have designed a workflow below that is simple one. The workflow initate the action well - Set the pending status, send an email to assign the task.

The one who received the task can access to it.

For Taks Status: I have removed the all default status and set 2 (Not started and Completed). when the screen is open the default status = blank

For Task Outcome, I have removed the default one, and set Need more info/Rejected/Compliance Notified. When the contact takes action and select for example

- Task Status = Completed

- Task Outcome = Compliance Notified

When clicked in Save, normally an email will autogenerated and inform about the status. But this is not happened here.

As you can see in the screen below, the status of workflow stuck at stage name "Pending to review" and I think that the email notification was not sent, due to this status.

Can you help me here and tell me what wrong with my workflow?

Installing to an isolated SharePoint 2016 farm

I have a requirement for the SharePoint 2013 workflows in an isolated 2016 farm, and I have not found out how to actually make them available.

The farm cannot be connected to the internet for any reason at all.

I've grabbed the Web Platform Installer to create an offline installation package, but I don't know what to include in it, even if that pertains.

Workflow interop stops working for large lists

Hi,

I noticed a strange behavior with a SP 2013 workflow that calls a 2010 workflow. I have this in an on-premise 2013.

First some context, I have created a test library with 55 documentsets, numbered from 01 to 55. In each of these document sets I copied 100 documents, from 100.txt to 199.txt with only one line there. I created two workflows, a 2013 workflow that does call the 2010 workflow. The 2010 workflow writes a "Hello world" to the log history of the workflow. I created the content in sequence, so first the document sets from 01 to 55 and then copying the same documents in each of the document sets, first in document set 01, then 02, up to the end for document set 55

When I start the 2013 workflow for

(1) document 100.txt in document set 01, everything works fine

(2) document 100.txt in document set 55, my 2013 workflow gets suspended with a "Bad request". I have the following error messages from the ULS logs:

This setup is to simulate the problem I have for migratinga 4000 item document library with some 2000 document sets and 3000 documents that I need to move to the right document set. I do this using a 2013 workflow that calls 2010 support workflows, for example to move the file.

Any ideas on how to solve this ?

I tested the same setup on Office 365 and I do not have the error ;-(

Is it possible to perform an in place upgrade of the OS on a server running Workflow Manager?

We have an ongoing effort to phase out our Windows 2008 servers and replace them with Windows 2012 R2 or Windows 2016.  We have a dedicated server running Workflow Manager, and rather than building out a new machine, I'd like to try performing an inplace upgrade of the OS from Windows 2008 to Windows 2012 R2.  Is this supported?  I know that it's not supported for SharePoint servers, but I have not been able to find anything that says it is not supported for Workflow Manager.  Thanks!

Workflows get stuck on TerminateWorkflow activity

$

Hello everyone,

We recently upgraded our SharePoint server from 2013 to 2019. The migration went pretty well, except for this one problem:

When a workflow hits a TerminateWorkflow activity, it kind of does not terminate the workflow. In fact, the workflow freezes at that point. My attempts to terminate those workflows manually seem to have no effect at all. The workflow status page says the workflow is "Started", I can click on Suspend (or whatever it is called in English) as often as I like, it does not have any effect either.

There is no error message, not in the workflow status page, not in the SharePoint log files, not in the Event log.

Fortunately, the workflows work as expected otherwise, so from the users' perspective, everything is fine. But meanwhile, zombie workflows keep piling up.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

I am really lost here, so I wholeheartedly appreciate any insights you might share.

Thank you so so much,

Benjamin
