Assign a Task - Send Task Overdue Email(s) Not Working

I in my workflow I have created an "Assign a Task" step and have configured the "Send Task Overdue Email(s)" option, but I am not receiving emails after the task is overdue. 

I have seen where others have suggested to build a process to do this manually. Is that to say this feature does not work.
